   "Fables of Faubus" is a composition written by jazz double bassist and composer Charles Mingus. One of Mingus's most explicitly political works, [2] the song was written as a direct protest against Arkansas governor Orval Faubus, [3] who in sent out the National Guard to prevent the racial integration of Little Rock Central High School by nine African American teenagers, in what became known as the Genre: Jazz.

   The full quintet is only present for the bassist's raucous, mocking "Fables of Faubus," a slap at racist Arkansas Governor Orvil Faubus, which runs over 41 minutes, though this version is obviously dubbed from an earlier LP source, as it has been edited together. Eric Dolphy 's bass clarinet and Clifford Jordan 's tenor sax are particularly effective in this extended work, which surprisingly never runs out of steam .

   First of all this is not a live album, this is Mingus' final studio session recorded in New York in The exact same music has appeared under the guise of various odd titles and labels, including a CD on Amazon called "His Final Work" (which is a couple bucks cheaper).3/5(1).

Jazz music, with its long history in the traditions of black people in America, acted as the background music to the civil rights movement in the late 50s and into the 60s. Gospel played that role within the communities, connecting the people in their churches, in the movement’s meetings and on marches.

   Later it came out on Gateway with one added track ("So Long Eric") which had previously appeared on the sampler collection titled Giants of Jazz - Volume 2 (Who's Who WWLP ). The whole session is also available on a CD called The Sound of Jazz on Cleo Records, Germany (CLCD ).
