Had never heard of Mussorgsky, let alone his Pictures At An Exhibition. Enter Emerson, Lake and Palmer and hey presto I was educated! Very different, very difficult to listen to at the beginning, but listen a few times and you realise it was very new and really worked (well, for me anyway). Prog rock on /5().

Pictures was recorded on March 21st, at Newcastle City Hall, where Emerson made use of the hall's thunderous pipe organ. The LP reissue comprises an excellent new remaster cut from the original master tapes. Stay up-to-date on the latest and greatest in high-end audio.

Jan 07,  · Well, the same thing happened to Emerson, Lake & Palmer, three rockers who entered the telepod, one of them (I’ve always suspected Keith Emerson) carrying an LP of Béla Bartók’s “Allegro Barbaro.” It was an innocent mistake, but when they emerged they were a despicable mutant hybrid of rock and classical influences dubbed symphonic rock.
